AI Traffic — included in every plan

Your biggest audience
isn't human anymore

ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini read your site long before a buyer ever lands on it — and your analytics throws every one of those visits away. Rank Monster shows you which agents came, what they read, and how many of their answers turned into real customers.

The blind spot

Stop treating AI traffic like noise

Three separate tools each throw away a piece of the same story. That is why AI feels unmeasurable — not because the data isn't there.

Analytics drops them on purpose

GA4 exists to count humans, so it filters known bots out before you ever see a number. The single largest audience for your content is invisible in the tool you use to judge your content.

Raw logs don't tell you who

Your CDN records a user-agent string. It will not tell you that Meta-ExternalAgent is training a model while ChatGPT-User is a person mid-question — and that difference changes what you do next.

AI referrals get mislabelled

Visits from chatgpt.com and perplexity.ai land in Direct or in a referral row nobody opens. Your fastest-growing acquisition channel looks like noise right up until someone asks where the traffic went.

One timeline

Three signals, finally on the same chart

Crawls tell you AI can see you. Referrals tell you the citation was worth clicking. Human sessions tell you what it is all worth. The gap between them is the story.

Every crawler and agent request, read straight from your CDN log — identified by name, company and intent.

Signal vs. noise

Not every bot is worth the same

A hit count on its own is trivia. Rank Monster sorts every agent into what it is actually there to do, so you know whether a spike is a model learning about you or a buyer asking about you.

Retrieval

Someone is asking about you right now

A live prompt sent this agent to your page, and the answer is being written as it reads. Retrieval hits are the closest thing AI search has to an intent signal — treat a spike on a product page the way you would treat a spike in demo requests.

ChatGPT-User · Claude-User · PerplexityBot · OAI-SearchBot
Indexing

You are eligible to be surfaced

Classic search crawlers still feed AI Overviews, Copilot and every answer engine built on top of a search index. If these go quiet on a section of your site, that section quietly stops being an answer candidate.

Googlebot · Bingbot · DuckAssistBot · YouBot
Training

You are being learned, not linked

Training crawlers are why a model can describe your product with no citation and no click. It is the slowest and most compounding form of AI visibility, and the one nobody measures — usually the largest number on this page.

GPTBot · ClaudeBot · ByteSpider · Meta-ExternalAgent · Google-Extended
Who is reading you

Know which models actually matter to your buyers

Every agent is named, attributed to its company and ranked by volume. Training crawlers usually dominate the raw count while a much smaller number of retrieval hits drive the answers your buyers actually read — two completely different jobs, and you cannot tell them apart from a hit count alone.

  • Ranked by company and by individual user agent
  • Filter to a single engine, category or date range
  • New agents are recognised automatically as they appear

The pages at the top of this table are the ones AI leans on when it answers questions about you. That is your real content strategy — measured, not guessed.

Proof it pays

Turn “AI mentioned us” into a number your CFO accepts

Being cited is nice. Being cited and clicked is a channel. Rank Monster separates visits that arrived from an AI answer out of the Direct bucket they normally hide in, then shows you which sources send them and which pages they land on.

  • Sessions attributed to ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Gemini
  • Landing pages ranked by AI-referred sessions, not guesses
  • Human traffic on the same axis, so you can see the share shift

Two clicks. No script on your site.

We read the request log your CDN already writes. Nothing runs in your visitors' browsers, so there is no tag to maintain and no millisecond added to your page speed — which matters, because slow pages get crawled less.

Vercel

Add a log drain in your project settings and paste the endpoint we generate. Bot data starts arriving in minutes.

Cloudflare

Point a Logpush job at your Rank Monster endpoint. Works on any origin sitting behind Cloudflare, framework agnostic.

Google Analytics 4

One OAuth click connects your property. Human sessions and AI referrals appear on the same chart as your crawlers.

The loop

FAQ

AI traffic, explained

What is AI traffic and why should I track it?+

AI traffic is every request to your site that comes from an AI system rather than a person browsing directly — crawlers that train models, crawlers that build answer-engine indexes, and agents fetching a page live because someone asked a question. It matters because those agents decide whether your brand appears in an AI answer at all. On most sites they now outnumber human visitors, and every one of them is filtered out of Google Analytics by design.

How is this different from Google Analytics?+

GA4 exists to measure humans, so it drops bot traffic on purpose and folds AI referrals into Direct or a referral bucket you never open. Rank Monster reads your CDN's raw request log, identifies each AI user agent, classifies it as training, indexing or retrieval, and puts it on the same timeline as your GA4 human sessions — so you can see the full picture in one chart instead of two blind spots.

Which AI agents do you identify?+

GPTBot, ChatGPT-User and OAI-SearchBot (OpenAI); ClaudeBot, Claude-User and Anthropic-AI (Anthropic); PerplexityBot and Perplexity-User; Googlebot and Google-Extended; Bingbot; Applebot; ByteSpider; Meta-ExternalAgent; DuckAssistBot; YouBot; Cohere-AI, and more. We add new agents as they show up in the wild — you do not have to configure anything.

What do I have to install?+

Nothing on your pages. Point a Vercel log drain or a Cloudflare Logpush job at Rank Monster and bot data starts flowing within minutes. Connect your GA4 property with Google OAuth and human plus AI referral traffic appears alongside it. No script tag, no tag manager, no page-speed cost.

What is the difference between an AI crawler and an AI referral?+

A crawler is the AI reading your site. A referral is a human clicking through to your site from an AI answer. Crawls are the leading indicator — they tell you AI can see your content. Referrals are the lagging one — they tell you the content earned a citation good enough to click. You want both, and you want to watch the gap between them.

Do I need to block AI crawlers?+

Almost never, and you should know the numbers before you decide. Blocking training bots keeps you out of the next model; blocking retrieval bots keeps you out of answers being written today. Rank Monster splits the two so the decision is a business call with data behind it, rather than a robots.txt line someone copied from a blog post.
